Jen, let me ask you a serious question about the baking soda remedy…

You mention that this remedy should not be used for at least an hour after a meal. But sometimes, heartburn starts only a few minutes after a meal. Is there any problem with taking a “regular” antacid (Tums, Mylanta, etc.) first, and then using the banking soda remedy later if the heartburn flares up again?

Most Tums, Mylanta, and others also contain calcium bicarbonate which is the main ingredient in baking soda. You can use it whenever, especially if you are producing too much acid. It just slows down digestion if you neutralize the acid in your stomach too early.
