This is one of the most disorganized books I’ve read. (People should probably not self-publish) It was choppy reading and didn’t flow well at all. Did not enjoy her Sky-Is-Falling attitude regarding commercially made & marketed drugs, since we all know these types of drugs have done good in our little lives. But like others, I wish for more natural choices and found one in her book that has helped me tremendously: DGL. So if you can find your way through the book and the drug company bashing, perhaps she’ll help you as she did me with her suggestions of natural aides. Just remember, makers of natural remedies don’t have to meet any agency qualifications and can be potentially harmful.

This book contains helpful information about a variety of GI problems, and has a good overview of pretty much anything that can go wrong in the GI system. However, I did find it to be on the alarmist side. I think her assertions about the incidence of esophageal cancer are overstated, compared with the statistics in the medical literature. Also, if all the foods that Dr. Rogers claims are killing us are really that bad, there would be not much left to eat, and you could certainly never eat in a restaurant. She would appear to be a member of the food police, so I think you would need to balance this book with other books that have a more traditional medical point-of-view, and weigh the information to draw your own conclusions.
I tried the yeast-free diet for 3 weeks but I could not tell any difference. Certainly it didn’t hurt so there’s no harm in trying it.
All in all, a good range of information but I did take it with a grain of salt (sea salt, because apparently table salt is bad for some reason).

I bought this book for an alternative look at some of the potential causes of GERD and other stomach ailments. While Dr. Rogers does indeed present an alternative perspective, I find one of the central tenets of her book – the thesis that Candida albicans is involved in most GI tract problems – puzzling and devoid of evidence. Although what she says makes sense on the surface, she provides little external support for her thesis. This is oddly annoying since she goes to the trouble to report medical literature for other aspects of the book, but fails to do so for one of the most important parts of the work. Her anecdotal evidence of having worked with patients doesn’t really cut it for me, and I found myself doubting her at the end. It seems to me that this book is simply a vehicle for shameless self-promotion and an advertisement for her other books. If you’re interested in alternatives, I’d check the over-used but nevertheless sensible Dr. Weil. Don’t waste your money on this book.

this book is truly an excellent resource for people suffering from GI problems. it writes in a clear straightforward manner that goes to the root of GI distress. much of what it says is similar to what Dr. Hyman (of the Ultramind Solution) says, so between these two experts, i’m pretty sure the information presented is accurate.
i recently was diagnosed with heartburn and acid relux. i was very disappointed in my GI’s doctor approach which did not inquire into why i was creating so much gas that was causing the reflux in the first place. my current understanding is that the gas is caused by either H. pylori, food allergies, yeast or bacterial overgrowth. people can furhter check out Dr. Hyman’s Ultrawellness blog for more info. hopefully this review will help those led astray by their conventional GI physicians.
