Smoking, salt increase risk for heartburn
Smoking and salt have been shown to increase the risk of acid reflux. According to a study, people who smoke everyday for 20 years or more are 70 percent more likely to develop heartburn. In the same study, consuming lots of salt in your food was also shown to increase your risk for heartburn by 70 percent. Eating a high fiber diet can reduce the chance of heartburn by 50 percent.
